no more p90x for me! :D

TRX
image courtesy of TRX Training website

you heard that right. a month into the program and i'm throwing in the towel. i've tried this program once or twice before and i did the same thing. now, i remembered why. it's because i just can't seem to watch another minute of the same dvds over and over again, week after week. sure, you say week 5 and forward have different dvds/workouts, but yeah... i don't know if i can do that for another 8 more weeks. it's just too much at the moment. i'm mentally not strong enough for this program or any program for that matter. must be because i need more excitement in my workouts. who knows?!

now, what i can tell you is, although i haven't been doing the program and have given up on it, i haven't stopped working out. i still run about 3 times a week and do strength exercises at least once a week! okay, i know i should be better and do more, but at the moment, that's not too bad. i am still pretty active, just not as active as i would like to be. ummmm.. how's my eating? well, okay, sure, i'll give it to you. it can definitely be better. i have to say, i did lose some weight before the big turkey day just to gain it all back. i know christmas is fast approaching so i'm really hoping at least i will lose a few and hopefully get through christmas with it back or steady without any weight gain! ;) hahaha, i know, wishful thinking, but hey... one must try!?!!

oh, since there's no more p90x for me, i've taken on TRX. yeah, the suspension training stuff used by the navy seals. ah huh, that's the workout. so far we (my awesome hubby) and i have gone to two morning classes and so far, it's kicked our butts -- real good, in a good way. i feel like i've really worked out after each class.

okay, that's enough for now. hopefully the next time i give an update i have more good news in the food/eating/diet department. that's because i have no doubt that i will keep on exercising/working out! :)

stay tune!

starting p90x on monday

join me on my weight loss adventure with p90x

so i've decided that i really need to do something, anything! because whatever i have been doing, i haven't put a whole lot of effort into it. with this said, i've decided that i really should give the whole losing those last several pounds (gained from baby #2) another try. yeah, i stopped running at lunch time because there were a few other factors that came in that i became sort of sensitive to. i won't go into specifics, but yeah, something like that. i guess if i wanted to, i can substitute walking during lunch instead of running. that wouldn't be so bad. of course, i'd rather run, but i'm not going to... unless i have no other available times to run.

anyway, i'm starting p90x on monday. i've given this fitness program a try about 2 years ago but only made it to week 4. i have never made it beyond that point and my eating habits were good, but never that great. i felt good during the whole four weeks, but somehow i just fell off the wagon. this time around i'm hoping it's different.

my ex-sis-in-law and i are doing it together. she got really bored with her jillian michaels dvds and decided she wanted to do something else. i'm hoping that with her doing this with me (although she's about 180 miles away), that we'll still be able to be successful. we're hoping to check in with each other every week or every other day or day and see how we're both doing. hopefully by our check-ins and talking each other through our triumphs and struggles that we'll be able to stick it out. a few obstacles or the biggest one i say is the upcoming holiday season. it's going to be tough getting through thanksgiving, christmas and new years. well, new years isn't a big deal for me, but i'm pretty sure she may be partying it up on nye. ;) whatever it is, the big challenge will come in a few weeks time. let's hope we both make it out okay. of course, i wouldn't mind if during the whole 90 days we only had like a few cheat days. there's nothing wrong with indulging a little bit once in a good while if you've been good. plus, i strongly believe in throwing your body off sometimes and that's a good thing. you can't always go at the same speed and expect changes. eventually your body gets used to it so a little mixing up may be a good thing.

i cannot wait to start and get serious about getting my pre-baby #2 weight and body back again. like one of my motto to myself: a year from now you'll wish you had started today. i hope to be here one year from now again and said i've done it. i've really stuck it out and did it. so stay tune and let's go through this journey together. i'll be back sometime later this weekend to post all my before measurements, plans and how we're really going to do this. it's going to be fun. stay tune! :)

getting back on the wagon

summer's over and fall's here. since the start of summer til now, i haven't really been watching my diet or weight. anyway, you can say i gained all those awful extra pounds back again.. yes, the ones i worked so hard to lose! i mean, every night, i was hitting play, doing all 'em pull-ups, push-ups, abs workouts, and not to mention, the countless miles i logged on my ipod nike+ gadget by running.

oh, i feel like the journey back to where i once was a few months ago seems so long. my body is all out of whack. the poor diet i've been eating lately has definitely made me feel sluggish. not to mention, the lack of exercise and countless hours bumming around the house. ahhhh!

alright, well.. today's a new day. i'm giving this another try, with a game plan i hope will help me succeed once and for all. so far, so good. i logged 2.7 miles of running during my lunch hour. ate reasonably well up until now. for dinner, we're having spaghetti so i'll be treating myself to just one serving of spaghetti, with a small piece of bread (lightly buttered) and a side salad w/ a 1/2 tsp of dressing. you can say the overall calories of this meal will be a good 700 calories or so. i know it's quite large, but that's okay considering what i've eaten today. so far, i believe my calorie count is only up to 600. so adding 700 will only give me 1300 for the day. by running for 25mins, that shed off 210 calories, so really, i do have 200 calories to spend if i want to. we'll see if i decide to have dessert tonight. but omg, i seriously need to cut out the sweets. i know.. been baking way too much, consuming too many goodies.

lalalala... stay tune.

starting stats:
weight: 104.2lbs -- ouch!

P90X

okay, so i restarted again on may 13. hmm... yeah, you can say that's my official start date? i don't know. i took down measurements and everything on that day, i just don't have them with me right now. anyway, i know it's super annoying, starting, restarting, etc. but that's because i decided to buy P90X and try it out. i've been doing it since the 13th... minus 3-4 days where i went up to chico for csuc grad weekend. that totally threw me off. anyway, i'm back on the schedule again though and so far, so good. of course i haven't been sticking to the whole diet/nutrition plan, it's just not working for me. i can't do one carb portion a day, no way! are you crazy? coming from my background, we eat carbs at just about every meal. of course my intake has been less, yes... but i can't do one a day, so.. :) but everything else i have been making a conscious effort to incorporate into my daily diet, ie. drinking more milk or eating cheese. yes, those darn dairy products. i don't do too good w/ them. i don't even like yogurt! let alone, i never used to like cheese or even drink milk. well, i'm still not too crazy about it all, but i have become better at eating it, so. :) plus, they say i, being a woman, can use some calcium! and yes, apart from dairy, im just super surprised at myself that i have been eating good old plain oatmeal (the 1-min kind, unfortunately) for breakfast for over 2+ months now. wow, amazing huh? let's hope even the 1-min plain oatmeal does my cholestorel some good. well, i have no idea what my level is... im sure it's fine. :)

alright, so yes... P90X. so far, so good. i took before pics, i'm really hoping my after pics will show some results. im excited for the next weekend, june 13. that will mark my 30 days, or technically, 31 day by that time.. but yes. im planning on taking my 30 day pics then. i hope i see some slight changes? iono. let's hope so. i have been watching what i eat, etc.

now, looking back over the course of this almost past year.. okay, i started this blog last july 2008, i just can't believe at how far i've come. if my current weight stays the same or steady, etc... you can say i've lost 10lbs since i started this journey. i know 10lbs doesn't seem like a lot to some, but 10lbs is a big deal when you're tiny! i'm almost there to my 95lbs milestone. but then again, 95lbs? ahhh, it would be great, but it's not really necessary. i don't mind looking 110lbs and tone/firm/in shape, etc. so yeah... the whole weight thing doesn't mean a whole lot. although i would really do like to see and know that i can attain it. of course, that doesn't mean that once i reach 95lbs i can just let everything go again. that's not the deal... i mean, i can't do that. i dont see myself doing that though. i see mark and me being super active this summer and throughout.

oh, speaking of being active, we're planning on running the SF marathon 5K. i know, only the 5K. that sucks! reason for that is because of my leg injury. it's still there. i don't really want to push it too much, so i think we'll just do the 5K. we talked about it. just haven't sign up for it yet. i know, bad.. i really should sign us up. gosh, i just hope i can finish the 5K. sucks having an injury. i really do hope i get over this within this next year cuz i would love to run in next year's race. of course, running in this year's race was my goal last year... but now, that's been delay due to this injury. oh well.

lalalalala.. okay, enough ramblings for one day. more next time. :)

i need to start eating healthy again...

It's been a while. I've been terrible! I haven't been running in about 3 weeks this coming Sunday. I suffered an injury about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure what it was exactly, but Mark said it might be a groin injury. That's kept me off of running or doing anything physical that pretty much requires my legs. Walking, running, biking, even casual getting out and about or around the house was tough. Sometimes I felt like such a cripple person (sorry, not trying to be rude here). But yes, there were times when the pain was so much each time I took a step... it was almost unbearable. Trying to hop on the good leg didn't even help! It still hurt!

Lalalala... anyway, the injury's getting better. I hope to get back to my old running form again in no time. Btw, I finally found a full-time (temporary) gig... finally working again, starting next Tuesday! :) I'm just glad... I feel like I've been out of work for way too long now, it's about time I get out there and start being normal like everyone. Over the last few months I've just been bumming around the house and doing random freelance gigs here and there. Anyway, let's hope all goes well. I'm excited. :)

Alright, new thing (or not) that I'm trying out. Okay, not really trying out, but more like really hoping to make a change. I need to start eating healthy again... eat more fruits and veggies, dairy products, etc. I'm terrible when it comes to this! So, here's my food options, etc. below. my own personal 4-week challenge

Yes, so it's the new year. Like everyone else vowing to lose weight, look better, etc etc, I've decided to give myself a four-week challenge. I really do hope I can stick with it... as that's always my problem. Everything's fine the first week or so... then of course comes week 2 or 3 and I get side track or distracted w/ other stuff. We'll see how this goes. :)

For now, here are my starting measurements:

weight: 101.4lbs
bust: 30"
abs: 26.5"
belly: 32"
below waist: 30.75"
hips: 33.5"
L thigh: 20.5"
R thigh: 20.25"
L calf: 13"
R calf: 12.75"
L arm: 9.75"
R arm: 9.8"
neck: 11.25"

I'm not super sure how accurately my arm measurements are... just cuz I did them myself and was having difficulties trying to get the tape measure to be in the correct place, read the measurements, etc... so... but I do hope that the measurement on it either improves or if it doesn't... that when I do look at myself in the mirror and even at my arms in person, it'll look good... I mean, notice a difference, somewhat. :)

Okay, so yes, today was the first day of this thing.. I did count my calories.. but of course, I'm already doing bad. I feel like I'm not quite 100% invested in this just yet.. especially when it comes to the eating part. It's so cold here, that I baked some cookies to keep the house warm. Madeleine cookies, that is. I asked for a Madeleine cookie pan this past Christmas and got it. I figured I attempt to bake some cookies. Of course the first batch was awful (just cuz it was too brown on the shelled side).. but the rest of the other batches turned out great. I think you just have to bake them for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees instead of 375 and you'll be just fine. For my last few batches I did them at 8 minutes at 350 and it turned out great. Bad thing about it all was, I "had to" test them to make sure they were all cooked through. That of course, led me to eating about six cookies. Oh well. Anyway, I'm running tonight w/ Mark so hopefully that will kind of make up for the six cookies. What a waste of calories huh? Each cookie had about 105 calories in it... oh well. Oh, for the recipe, you can go here.

Lalalalalalala... just an update, I don't think I'm doing the KP Half-Marathon come Feb. 1st. I haven't really trained for it. And right now the thought of running more than 6 miles isn't so appealing to me, let alone more than 5 miles. I know I still have until Friday or something to sign up for the race, but I really don't know. For me to really do that, I would have to attempt to run 13.1 miles sometime this week (raw) and do it under 3 hours to even register. Well, there's a backup.. and that's the 5K. I'll probably just do that... we'll see. The KP HM is a huge event, so it should be fun. We'll see.

Alright, more later. :)

training for my first half-marathon?! =/

Today is the first day of a brand new thing. Well, it's more like.. I'm restarting again, except for with a slightly different purpose. I really want to be able to run a half-marathon and survive it, so this week is the first week of a 12-week training I will put myself on. Yeah, I know, silly me. But yes, I really want to do well. So for now, back to hardcore calorie counting, every step counting (putting my pedometer to use again), and exercising.

Starting this week I will attempt to make running a habit again. Kaiser Permanente is having this half-marathon this coming Super Bowl Sunday. I think it's like the first weekend of February of 2009. Anyway, I've decided that I will train for that and make it my first half-marathon. Who knows if I will really run the race, but I just want to train for it. So yes, starting this week I will gradually train my body to eventually run 10+ miles. Yikes! I know!

So here's the run down on this training schedule:

Week 1: run 8 miles total, 2-3-3
Week 2: 11 miles, 3-4-4
Week 3: 13 miles, 4-4-5
Week 4: 15 miles, 4-5-6
Week 5: 16 miles, 4-5-7
Week 6: 18 miles, 5-5-8
Week 7: 20 miles, 5-6-9
Week 8: 22 miles, 5-7-10
Week 9: 15 miles, 4-5-6
Week 10: 23 miles, 6-6-11
Week 11: 20 miles, 5-6-9
Week 12: run 5-4-RACE!

OMG.. lots of mileage. Let's hope I stick with it and do good. Well, first off, I WILL stick with it and I WILL DO IT! :) Wish me luck! :P

Okay, write more later. Stay tune. :)

Alright, just some quickies. Bought a new scale. It's a WW digital scale. Current weight, 104.8 lbs... goal weight, 95-100 lbs.. waist, 27".. below belly, 32" ... ahh! I know, good luck. :)

official start! :)

So like I said last week, I'm officially starting my 30 Day Shred today. I haven't done the workout yet, but I totally plan on doing that tonight when I get home from work. I really, really, want to do well, or at least, try to stick to something... and it's only for 30 days, so I have to at least try and do it. I know I'm always terrible, especially at starting things and then eventually just getting side track, etc. Although I can proudly say I am still sticking to running... just not so often as I did during the summer for a few weeks.

Anyway, speaking of running, Mark and I did our planned jog around Golden Gate Park yesterday. We started by the Polo Fields, ran down MLK and around to JFK and back... to the Polo Fields parking lot. It wasn't so bad... a quick 3.1 mile jog. Of course, Mark's pace is much faster than mine, so he finished his in 27 minutes. I did mine under 32 minutes. So overall, we did good.. met our goals, etc. Mark really enjoyed this jog so I think we're going to do it again. We've decided that one day out of the work week we'll go jogging after work before actually going home. I know that once I get home, I don't really feel like going out again. So anyway, that's what we've planned for this Friday. Let's hope we stick with it.

Oh, we went to the movies yesterday after the 49er's game. Saw Eagle Eye, wasn't too bad. I liked it.. Mark did too. I'm glad we finally got out and watched a movie. It's been a while since we've last seen something at the movie theatre.

Alright, here's what I've eaten/plan to eat for today:

BREAKFAST:
- dinner leftover: spaghetti w/ pasta sauce, garlic bread (350 cal)

AM SNACK:
- orange (100 cal)

LUNCH:
- Lean Cuisine chicken teriyaki bowl w/ veggies & rice (250 cal)

30 day shred, weekend race, weigh-in, etc

So I got the DVD in the mail this weekend for Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. I'm super excited for it. I'm going to start it today when I get home from work. I previewed it this weekend and it doesn't seem so bad. It's got 3 levels, easy, intermediate and advance or whatever... and only 20 minutes each. So 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. That's not bad. So it's like a circuit training kind of thing. I just hope I'll stick to it. I mean, it says 30 days right...? So I guess stick to it for 30 days, a MUST do and see if I can do it? Who knows.

Anyway, yesterday was the Lake Merced Half Marathon/4.5-mile Run. Mark and I did the 4.5-mile run. OMG... I'm still feeling a bit out of it for some reason. The run was a bit tougher than before. I guess it could be that I haven't really been keeping up with my runs. Lately, I haven't really been running apart from just racing. Since the Nike+ race, I haven't really ran (practice)... and raced twice since then. I don't know... I think I did okay though. I definitely improved on my time, from the previous time I ran the lake. Mark's time was waaaaay good, assuming it's the correct time. We're waiting to see the official results to make sure. But if he's correct, then wow! He said he ran the lake in 33 minutes. Compared that time to the last time he ran/walk it (cuz that was all he could do then), it's just astonishing! 33 minutes?!!! Wow! His previous time on this course was 47:10. So if you think about it, that's 14 minutes he cut there! That's like a 7:20 mile pace or something. Anyway, we'll see what the official results say. Interesting to see though. :) I'm just super proud of him... I mean, he said he's not even a runner.. and to do this good? Plus, just compare this run to the first couple that he did... it's just amazing!!

Btw, I weighed myself this weekend cuz I missed the weigh-in on Friday. I'm still the same... at 103lbs. So haven't really gained or loss any. I know I haven't really been keeping up with my food journal.. so yeah, not so great. But let's hope w/ this whole 30-day shred thing, I'll try to keep up with it. We'll see. :)

Alright, here's what I ate/plan to eat for the day:

BREAKFAST:
- leftover dinner, spaghetti w/ ground turkey pasta sauce (350 cal)

AM SNACK:
- Special K's breakfast bar (90 cal)

LUNCH:
- Pazzo side salad w/ balsamic dressing + 1 piece of bread (250 cal)

PM SNACK:
- medium banana (120 cal)
- 6-7 peanut M&M's (75 cal)

DINNER:
- chicken stir-fry w/ tomatoes, onions, lemongrass, ginger + 1/2 cup white rice (350 cal)
- cup 1% milk (130 cal)

- rotisserie chicken breast w/ yorkshire pudding, a couple steak fries, steamed green beans and 1/2 cup rice (450 cal)

TOTAL CALORIES: 1215

a new approach

So, here we go again... something slightly different, but very much the same.

ONE RULE: To keep going! Must not just survive week 1, but week 2, 3, 4 and so on.

I know I should and must try to >>

1. Eat healthier, plan my meals... (eat 1,100-1,250 calories/day on most days, and up to 1,600 calories 2 days a week!)
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables (at least 2 servings/day)
3. Have less process foods
4. Drink more milk (or 3 servings of dairy/day)
5. Exercise at least 3 times a week (30 minutes/day)
6. Continue running... just keep running! (nothing major, even a 10-15 min run session is ok)
7. Keep walking... try to get 10,000 total steps (walk/run) a day!
8. MUST incorporate strength training/abs.. and stretch!

That's it. Very simple... so pretty much, very similar to before, apart from the dough part cuz I'm broke at the moment, plus it didn't really motivate me in the first place. I don't know why... ahh! Let's just hope I can really keep up and stay with it. MUST GET PAST WEEK 1 and the weekends.

Alright, we'll see how everything goes. :)

a new start...

Alright, I hate restarting... but really, I want to be serious this time, for real. So here's the deal, starting right now, at this very moment, I want to be good and do good regarding weight loss, diet, exercise, myself... everything else, pretty much the whole shi-bang!

So to make this work, I've decided to write up a mini-contract for myself. For every day that I do not walk pass 10,000 steps or eat more than 1250 calories, I must pay myself $1.

"YOU CAN SO DO THIS" Contract:

I, mzrichee, vow to be true, honest, and give every effort possible to making this weight loss, getting back into shape, eating healthier possible. If I do not meet any daily/weekly goals by the time I hit the sack every night I must deposit $1 per goal into the piggy bank.

These goals are:
1. Eat between 1,100 to 1,250 calories per day
2. Walk/run 10,000 total steps per day
3. Run at least 10-15 miles a week
4. Drink 2 glasses of milk per day
5. Eat at least 2 servings of fruit per day
6. Eat at least 2 servings of veggies per day
7. Two stretch/pilates sessions a week
8. Two strength training sessions a week
9. Two abs sessions a week

So if you think about it, if I was to really slack off and not do anything, I could end up having to deposit $5 a day on most days, and $9 on Sunday if I really did not do much on that day.

I honestly think this is a doable, reasonable contract. I know I can do this. I just have to "JUST DO IT!"

I am so excited to start this new thing I've got for myself. I know I can really do this. I want to do this. I have to do this. I must do this!!!! I talked Mark into running the Nike+ HumanRace10K with me at the end of this month in Los Angeles, so I really need to stick with this and do well. I want to make sure that by the end of the month, I am so ready to tackle this 10K. I've never ran more than 4 or 5 miles at a time, so I really want to do well, be ready for this 6.2 miles.

Oh, today's the SF Marathon in San Francisco. I'm just so excited for all those runners out there today. Yesterday I drove pass the Embarcadero and saw all those people down at the Marathon Expo. So many runners picking up their packet, numbers, shirts, etc. It's just super exciting. I can't wait for that to be me next year. I really want to tackle a half-marathon. And eventually, one of these days, tackle a full marathon. I know it's quite the distance, but I just know I can so do it. Really, all you have to do is set your mind to it and anything, seriously, anything is possible if it's within your control. I believe I can do it. If any of those runners can, I certainly can! :)

Alright, so what have I done/eaten today? First off, I ate horribly this morning! My breakfast was more like lunch or dinner. I had 1/2 cup of white rice with a rotissere chicken wing and drumstick w/ BBQ sauce. I know, terrible! But regarding exercise, so far I've ran almost 2.5 miles (30 minutes total) and burned 198 calories doing it.. which isn't so bad.

Anyway, for the rest of the day I do vow to do good because the whole contract thing starts right now. So... good luck to me and let's hope I do really good!

Oh, when's the end date to all of this? Let's do this for 3 months... so let's say Sunday, November 2, 2008. :)

Best of luck to me!!!
